CASPAR operates four support services programs that make possible the transition to residential treatment, independent living, and self-sufficiency for individuals who are homeless. Four support services make possible the transition to residential treatment, independent living, and self-sufficiency for individuals who are homeless. The first is ACCESS, a program for newly sober Emergency Service Center clients, which provides pre-treatment groups, case management, individualized service plans, and one-on-one counseling. ACCESS prepares shelter clients for the highly structured environment of residential treatment or assists clients in their search for other sober housing alternatives. ACCESS clients participate in socialization and psychoeducation groups at CASPAR’s Phoenix Center, the second of CASPAR’s support services. The Phoenix Center is a sober day drop-in program where clients receive counseling and referrals, gain social skills, and begin to develop the network of supports necessary for ongoing recovery. Every ACCESS and Phoenix Center client participates in a complete psychosocial assessment which is performed by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from CASPAR’s Outpatient Clinic. This third support service provides traditional individual and group counseling to individuals who are affected by mental illness in addition to their substance abuse. CASPAR’s GEAR program offers pre-vocational training and employment for homeless individuals who lack both a job history and a job reference. GEAR is a structured program where individuals gain basic skills and receive promotions based on their developing competence and self-confidence.
